Removal
1. Remove the drive belt (see Chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Remove the air filter housing with the air intake sleeve (see Chapter Fuel, exhaust and emission control systems).
4. On 82 hp engine. remove the throttle body pipe.
5. Disconnect all electrical wiring from the generator diesel engine disconnect the generator connector located on the right frame crossmember.
6. On diesel engine unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the front tie rod holder from the cross beam (see Chapter Engines).
7. On diesel engine remove the vacuum pump (see Chapter Brake system).
8. On engines with a V-belt, remove the bolts securing the generator to the tensioner and to the lower mounting element.

9. On dOHC engines with a reinforced V-belt, remove the right drive shaft (see Chapter Clutch and drive shafts).
10. On engines with a reinforced V-belt, remove the bolts securing the alternator to the bracket (2) and the lower mounting element (1). On DOHC engines with a reinforced V-belt, disconnect the alternator from the additional bracket.

Installation
1. Install the generator in place, tighten its fasteners by hand.
2. Secure all electrical wiring. Make sure the ground is connected.
3. On diesel engine install the vacuum pump (see Chapter Brake system).
4. On diesel engine use a tap to go through the threaded holes in the holder. Lubricate the new bolts with a locking sealant, for example, OPEL 90167347 (1510177) and insert them into the holder. Tighten the bolts in two steps, first with force 50 Nm, and then turn their angle 90 degrees.

5. On engines with a heavy-duty V-belt, install the alternator in place and tighten its fasteners to the lower bracket with force 35 Nm, and fastening to the upper holder - with force 20 Nm.
6. Put on the V-belt and tighten it (see Chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
7. On V-belt engines, tighten the upper and lower fasteners.

8. Reinstall the air intake hose and air filter.
9. On 82 hp engine. install the throttle body pipe.
10. On dOHC engines install the right drive shaft (see Chapter Engines).
11. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Connect the wire only with the ignition off to avoid damaging the ECM.
Features of the 1.0L DOHC engine
1. Remove the V-belt and place it on the pulleys (see Chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
2. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the generator.
