Generator/fan drive belt — replacement and adjustment (Opel Omega A)

1. Where used, remove the power steering pump drive belt as described in Section 10.

2. Disconnect the warm air duct (carburetor engines) or throttle body air duct (engines with fuel injection system), to provide access to the generator.

3. Loosen the alternator pivot shaft and adjuster link bolts, turn the alternator toward the engine, and remove the drive belt from the alternator pulleys, cooling fan, and crankshaft. Pass the drive belt over the cooling fan blades.

4. Place the new drive belt on the pulleys, then lift the alternator to tension the belt. When tension is properly adjusted, the drive belt should move approximately 13.0 mm when you apply finger pressure midway between the alternator and crankshaft pulleys (photo).



5. Clamp the generator pivot shaft and adjusting link bolts.
