1. Where applicable, remove the power steering pump drive belt as described in Section 10.
2. Disconnect the warm duct (carbureted engines) or throttle body duct (fuel injection engines), to provide access to the generator.
3. Loosen the alternator pivot pin and adjusting link bolts, rotate the alternator towards the engine and remove the drive belt from the alternator pulleys, cooling fan and crankshaft. Pass the drive belt over the cooling fan blades.
4. Position the new drive belt on the pulleys, then lift the alternator to tension the belt. With the correct tension, the drive belt should move approximately 13.0 mm when pressed with a finger in the middle between the pulleys and the alternator and the crankshaft (photo).
5. Tighten the alternator pivot and adjusting link bolts.
