Checking the ignition timing (Opel Frontera A)

Checking the ignition timing of a 2.0L engine manufactured before mid-1995

Checking the ignition timing of a 2.0L engine manufactured before mid-1995

The ignition timing of the old 2.0L engine can be checked. To do this, you need to connect the stroboscope in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. With the engine idling, point the strobe light at the crankshaft belt pulley. The groove on the pulley and the pointer must match the oil pump body.

If the ignition timing is set incorrectly, it is best to contact a car repair shop, as the reasons may be different.

For a 2.4 L engine, the ignition timing is checked in a similar manner. The difference is that in this case the light must be directed into the flywheel housing hole. The markings on the flywheel and the inspection window of the clutch housing should match when the ignition timing is adjusted correctly.

These engines do not have ignition timing adjustment. The ignition advance angle is 8-12° before TDC.
