Replacement of DIS ignition module (since mid-1995)
The module is located on the back side of the engine, near the front wall.
1. Disconnect the cable with the plug from the module.
2. Loosen the bolt and release the cable clamp on the holder.

3. Remove the ignition module mounting bolt from the camshaft housing. The bolt also secures the engine lifting eye. Remove the second bolt from the cylinder head and lift the ignition module upwards. Pay attention to how the block is installed. Its installation is shown in the illustration. Finally, disconnect the plug connection at the module and unscrew the four bolts (near cable connections), by detaching the module from the holder.

4. The ignition module is installed in the reverse order of its removal. Tighten the bracket mounting bolts to the cylinder block to 15 Nm. Note the method of connecting the ignition cables (illustration). The ignition cables have a number marking according to which they are connected to the ignition module.
Replacing the crankshaft TDC sensor
Crankshaft TDC Sensor Location
The pulse sensor is located in the location shown in the illustration. To remove it, you need to remove the V-belt and the vibration damper. The engine must be lifted with a lifting mechanism to allow one of the supports to be disconnected. The following operations are then performed:
1. Disconnect the cable cover from the timing belt protective cover.
2. Check how the sensor cable harness is routed on the rear timing belt cover and disconnect the cable.
3. Suspend the engine on a lifting device and disconnect the engine mount on the appropriate side.
4. Disconnect the suspension clamp from the cylinder block and unscrew the sensor together with the sealing ring from the cylinder block.
5. Screw in the new sensor with the sealing ring and tighten it to 6 Nm.
6. Perform other installation work in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the engine mount clamp to 60 Nm, and the rubber support nuts to 40 Nm. Pay attention to the correct routing of the cable harness. While holding the crankshaft from turning, tighten the vibration damper bolts to a torque of 20 Nm.
Fit the V-belt as described in Chapter Cooling and heating systems.
Replacing the knock sensor
1. Place the front of the vehicle on stands. Remove the bottom protective sheet (if it exists) under the car.

2. Disconnect the sensor plug connection (1) in the illustration. The illustration shows the position of the plug with the engine removed (near the starter).
3. Remove the knock sensor from the cylinder block.
4. Clean the sensor contact surface thoroughly. Screw the sensor into the cylinder block and tighten it to a torque of 20 Nm.
5. Other installation work is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
