In order to avoid breakdown or damage to the ignition system, the following safety measures must be observed during all work on the ignition system:
1. Do not disconnect the ignition cables while the engine is running or when turning the starter crankshaft, do not touch or disconnect with your hands. The voltage is very high.
2. Disconnect the ignition wires only when the engine is not running. The same applies to the connection of test and measuring devices. In this case, the ignition must also be turned off.
3. If the middle cable is taken out of the distributor, it must be connected immediately with the help of the auxiliary cable to ground. If this is not done, the engine must under no circumstances be turned over by the starter (which is sometimes required for some checks).
4. You should refuse help when starting with a quick charger, as not every device is suitable for this. If used, it can be connected for a maximum of one minute with a maximum voltage of 16.5 V.
5. Disconnect the battery when doing electrical work (which in any case is required to be done because of the generator).
6. If the vehicle is towed due to damage to the ignition system, the control device must be switched off.
7. Only ignition cables, runner and spark plug tips specified for this model may be used.
8. Persons with a heart pacemaker are not allowed to work with the ignition system. Persons with heart disease should also be warned against working in the engine compartment.
9. Before disconnecting the battery, you must find out the code of the anti-theft radio.
10. Switch off the ignition and wait at least 20 seconds before disconnecting the plug connection of the electronic control unit. Otherwise, the block may be damaged.
