Removing
1. Raise and place the rear of the vehicle on stands.
2. Loosen the nuts and remove the wheels.
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Loosen the screw securing the brake drum with a screwdriver and remove the drum. If the drum cannot be removed immediately, squeeze out the plug from the back of the brake shield, insert a screwdriver into the hole until it touches the parking brake lever.
5. Press the lever, resting it on the brake shoe so that the shoes move away from the drum. It may be necessary to disconnect the brake drive in the equalizer area.
6. Clean the brake of dirt (do not use compressed air for this - see above). Brake drums can be ground if necessary.
7. The dimensions of the drum are given in the Specifications. The main defect of the drum is the ovality of its working surface. In the presence of ovality, a snug fit of the brake pads is excluded, which leads to a decrease in braking efficiency. The ovality is eliminated by boring.
Installation
Before installing the drums, it is necessary to check the ease of movement of the adjustment mechanism. If it rotates with a jam, it is necessary to remove the brake pads, providing access and the possibility of checking the mechanism.
1. Sand the mating surfaces of the drums (internal surfaces) and wheel hubs.
2. Reinstall the drums and tap them with a rubber mallet until the screw can be inserted.
3. Tighten the screw to 4 Nm.
4. After installing the drums, press the brake pedal 20-25 times to set the mechanism to its working position. Setting the adjustment mechanism to the working position is accompanied by a click.
5. If the parking brake cable was disconnected from the equalizer, move the parking brake lever two teeth and adjust the cables on the equalizer so that the brake shoes lightly touch them when the drums are turned.
6. After that, release the brake and check that the drums turn freely.
