Rear brake drums of the rear drum brake mechanism — replacement (Opel Zafira A)

The need to perform this topping up operation should be determined during the process of checking the technical condition of the brake system (see "Brake system - checking technical condition").

Warning! We replace the brake drums on both sides of the car.


Recommendation: We strongly recommend that when replacing brake drums, you also replace the brake shoes.


Sequence of execution



1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the rear wheel (see "Wheel - replacement").

3. Using a TORX T30 key, unscrew the brake drum mounting screw.

4. Release the parking brake.

5. Using a hammer and a wooden spacer, tap the brake drum.

6. Remove the brake drum from the hub.

7. Install the parts in reverse order.

Recommendation: If the pads interfere with the installation of the drum, tighten the threaded part of the automatic adjustment device bar so that the bar has a minimum length (see Fig. "Rear drum brakes - check").


8. After installation, move the brake shoes to the drums by pressing the brake pedal several times.
