Parking brake — adjustment (Opel Zafira A)

            0

The parking brake must be adjusted after replacing its drive cables, replacing the rear brake drums, discs or pads, and also if the check (see "Parking brake - check") showed the need for adjustment. The stroke of the parking brake lever should be 2-4 clicks.

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Using a slotted screwdriver, pry up the floor tunnel trim panel and remove it.

4. Turn the adjusting nut with a 10 mm deep-head socket wrench to increase or decrease the tension of the parking brake drive cables, depending on what is needed: to decrease or increase the number of clicks.

4. Turn the adjusting nut with a 10 mm deep-head socket wrench to increase or decrease the tension…

Note: If the parking brake cannot be adjusted (the number of clicks is more than four), most likely the parking brake cables have stretched or broken and need to be replaced (see "Parking Brake Cables - Replacement").

5. If the parking brake is adjusted correctly (the number of clicks is normal), we hang up the rear wheels and make sure that when the lever is released, the wheels rotate freely and the brake pads do not catch on the brake drums or brake discs, and when the lever is raised, both wheels are locked.

Note: If the number of clicks is normal, and both or one wheel does not lock, most likely the parking brake cables are "sanded" and need to be replaced (see "Parking Brake Cables - Replacement"). In addition, on cars with rear disc brakes, the caliper lever may become "sticky". Also, on cars with rear disc brakes, a specific malfunction may occur due to the caliper lever becoming "sticky": when the parking brake lever is released, one or both wheels may remain locked (see "Brake system - checking technical condition").

6. Install the parking brake lever cover and floor panel trim panel in place.
