Warning! When the brake pistons are pressed into the cylinders, the brake fluid level in the reservoir will increase, so pump out some of the brake fluid from the reservoir. After replacing the brake pads, check the brake fluid level and, if necessary, bring it up to normal (see "Checking the levels of technical fluids").
If the brake pads are worn on only one side, it is necessary to replace the pads on both sides of the vehicle.
Recommendation: When replacing brake pads, be sure to check the degree of wear and condition of the brake drum (see "Rear drum brakes - check").
Sequence of execution
1. Prepare the car for work (e.g. "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the cover of the main brake cylinder reservoir and use a rubber bulb to pump out some of the fluid.
3. Remove the brake drum (see "Rear brake drums - replacement").
4. Using pliers, remove the upper tension spring.

5. Remove the upper tension spring bracket.

6. Remove the pawl with the spring of the automatic adjustment device.

7. Using pliers, remove the lower tension spring.

8. Holding the support post from the back, press on the cup with pliers and turn the post 90°. Remove the cup and the support post spring.

9. Remove the support stand and remove the front brake shoe.

10. Remove the spacer bar.

11. Remove the rear brake shoe support and move the shoe away.
12. Press the spring of the parking brake cable, disengage the cable from the brake shoe lever and remove the brake shoe.

13. Carefully inspect the brake mechanism parts. Damaged parts must be replaced.
14. Clean the brake mechanism shield.
15. Apply a special high-temperature lubricant to the contact points of the brake pads with the brake shield.

16. Install the parts in reverse order.
17. Before installing the spacer bar, tighten the threaded part so that the bar has a minimum length.
18. After installation, check the brake fluid level (see "Checking the levels of technical fluids") and we apply the brake pads to the drums by pressing the brake pedal several times.
