The work is shown on the example of a steel wheel with a decorative cap of the Astra model. Depending on the configuration, other decorative caps may be installed on the cars (differing in fasteners) or alloy wheels. In this case, the wheel replacement process will be slightly different, but the basic steps will still remain the same.

1. If possible, park the car on a flat, horizontal surface. If there are passengers in the car, they should be disembarked.

2. Remove the spare wheel and the necessary tools from the luggage compartment (see "Removal the spare tire and tool kit").

3. We fix the car with the parking brake and install wheel chocks on both sides under the wheel located diagonally from the one being replaced.

6. Using a 17 mm socket wrench or socket, loosen all wheel mounting bolts by approximately half a turn.

Note: The operation is shown on the example of the Astra model with a wheel rim fastened with four bolts. On some modifications of the Astra model, as well as on all Zafira models, the wheel rim is fastened with five bolts.

Warning!
  • If the car is parked on loose ground, place a pad under the jack to increase the jack's support area (for example, a board of the appropriate size).
  • Install the jack only in the places specially designated for this purpose on the vehicle body (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair"), since incorrect installation can lead not only to damage to the body, but also to injury if the jack jumps out of the support.

7. Place a jack under the threshold of the car. The lower support platform of the jack should be located strictly under the upper stop (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

8. Smoothly lift the car, simultaneously checking that it does not move forward or backward. We lift until the car wheel being replaced is 2-3 cm from the supporting surface.

9. Finally, unscrew the wheel mounting bolts and remove the cap retainer.

10. Remove the wheel.

11. Install the spare wheel on the hub. Holding the wheel, secure the cap retainer and tighten the wheel bolts.

12. Holding the wheel from turning, tighten the mounting bolts crosswise.

13. Smoothly lower the car until the wheel touches the supporting surface. Then completely lower the car onto the wheels and fold the jack.

14. Finally tighten the wheel mounting bolts according to the same pattern to the prescribed torque.

15. Clean the removed wheel and place it in the luggage compartment, secure it securely, remove the wheel chocks and tools.

16. Check the tire pressure and, if necessary, bring it up to normal (see "Checking tire pressure").
