Rear timing belt cover (Opel Frontera B)

Removal

Remove the camshaft pulleys (see the relevant chapter).

Remove the oil filter.

Remove the camshaft position sensor (1), the timing belt guide rollers (2), the timing belt guide roller support bracket (3), and the timing belt tensioner roller (4).



Unscrew the bolts and remove the timing belt drive pulley (6), using special tools KM 942 and KM-662-C (5) to prevent it from turning.

Note: The special device KM-662-C can be installed only after the piston of the first cylinder is set to TDC.

Remove the bolts (8) securing the rear timing belt cover to the cylinder head and the bolts (7) securing the rear timing belt cover to the oil pump and remove the cover.

Installation

Install the rear timing belt cover and bolt it to the oil pump and cylinder head, tightening the M6 bolts to a torque of 6 Nm and the M8 bolts to a torque of 8 Nm.

Install the timing belt pulley (6) onto the crankshaft. Using the KM-942 and KM-662-C devices, hold the pulley from turning and tighten the new pulley mounting bolt in several passes:

• 1st pass: tighten the bolt to 130 Nm;
• 2nd pass: turn the bolt to an angle of 40-50°.

Check the condition of the spring washer and, if necessary, replace it with a new one.



Secure the timing belt guide roller support bracket (3) to the cylinder block, tightening the bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.

Secure the timing belt guide roller (2) to the cylinder block, tightening the bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.

Secure the timing belt guide roller (3) to the cylinder block, tightening the bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.

Install the roller (4) of the toothed belt tensioner onto the oil pump bracket and secure it with the bolt, tightening it to a torque of 25 Nm.

Install the camshaft position sensor (1) and secure it with the bolt, tightening it to a torque of 6 Nm.
