Warnings:
- Turn the crankshaft back approximately 4 teeth so that the piston of the 1st cylinder is set at 60° from TDC. This will distribute the pressure of the valve springs evenly along the length of the camshaft, thereby preventing the risk of damage to the shaft bearing caps during its removal/installation.
- Before removing the camshaft bearing caps, check the caps for markings or mark them.

Removal
Remove the camshaft pulleys (see the relevant chapter).
Working in a spiral from the outside to the inside, loosen the camshaft bearing cap bolts one-half turn or one turn at a time to gradually relieve the valve spring pressure on the bearing caps. Remove the bolts and bearing caps.

Remove the camshafts from the cylinder head.
Clean the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft bearing caps.

Inspect the working surfaces of the camshaft and cam bearings for scratches and wear. If such damage is found, replace the camshaft. If the cylinder head running surfaces are excessively worn, replace the cylinder head.
Lubricate the contact surfaces of the tappets and camshaft with MoS2 grease and carefully install the camshafts in their original place in the cylinder head.
Warnings:
- When installing, the identification numbers on the camshaft bearing caps must match the numbers on the cylinder head.
- When installing the front camshaft bearing caps (1), apply an even layer of sealant to the mating surfaces of the caps.

Installation
Lubricate the bearing journals and camshaft lobes with engine oil and install the camshafts into the cylinder head.
Install the camshaft bearing caps back into the cylinder head. In several passes, in a spiral from the inside to the outside, tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts to 8 N·m.

Lubricate the working edges of the camshaft oil seals with engine oil and install the oil seals into the cylinder head using the special KM-422 tool and the camshaft pulley mounting bolts.
Install the camshaft pulleys (see the relevant chapter).
