Petrol engines 2.2 l (X 22 SE and Y 22 SE)



Removal



Remove the lower engine compartment protection.

Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.

Remove the timing belt tensioner roller (see the relevant chapter).

Remove the bolts and remove the water pump (1) from the cylinder block.

Remove the bolts and remove the water pump (1) from the cylinder block.


Examination



Check the water pump for cracks or damage.

Turn the water pump shaft and check for smooth rotation and no noise. Replace the water pump if necessary.

Installation



Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

Before installing the water pump, apply a thin, even layer of sealant to the water pump mating surface.

Install the water pump with a new sealing ring (1) on the cylinder block and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 25 Nm, without damaging the previously applied layer of sealant.

Fill the engine cooling system with coolant, bleed the cooling system and check the cooling system for leaks (see the relevant chapter).

Petrol engine 3.2 l (6VD1-W)



Removal



Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.

Install the timing belt (1) of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).

Install the timing belt (1) of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).


Remove the timing belt pulleys.

Loosen the bolt and remove the idler roller (2) from the cylinder block.

Remove 11 bolts and water pump (3) and gasket (4).

Examination



Check the water pump for cracks or damage.

Turn the water pump shaft and check for smooth rotation and no noise. Replace the water pump if necessary.



Check the pump impeller for cracks or corrosion.

Installation



Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

Install the gasket onto the water pump mating surface.

Install the water pump on the cylinder block and, in the sequence shown in the figure, secure it with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 25 N·m. Before screwing in the bolt marked with an arrow, apply a layer of sealant to the bolt threads Loctite 262.

Install the camshaft pulleys and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 98 N·m.

Install the idler roller on the cylinder block and secure it with a bolt, tightening it to a torque of 52 N·m.

Install the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).

Fill the engine cooling system with coolant, bleed the cooling system and check the cooling system for leaks (see the relevant chapter).



Diesel engines 2.2 l (X22 DTH and Y22 DTH)



Removal



Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.

Remove the V-belt (see the relevant chapter).

Remove the pulley (1) from the water pump.

Remove the pulley (1) from the water pump.


Remove the water pump (2) from the timing case and collect the leaking coolant.

Remove the water pump (2) from the timing case and collect the leaking coolant.


Examination



Check the water pump for cracks or damage.

Turn the water pump shaft and check for smooth rotation and no noise. Replace the water pump if necessary.

Installation



Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the timing gear housing.

Install the water pump with a new gasket on the timing case and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 20 N·m

Install the water pump pulley and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 20 Nm.



Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.

Install the V-belt (see the relevant chapter).

Fill the engine cooling system with coolant, bleed the cooling system and check the cooling system for leaks (see the relevant chapter).
