Cars with 2.2L petrol engines (X 22 SE and Y 22 SE)
Removal
Remove the lower engine compartment protection.
Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.
Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing (1).

Remove the bolts and remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head.
Remove the thermostat from the cylinder head.
Examination
Hang the thermostat on a thread in a transparent container with water.
Insert a thermometer into the water, heat the container with water and observe the thermostat valve. Determine the temperature at which the thermostat valve begins to open and when it is fully opened.
Installation
Clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat and cylinder head.
Install the thermostat into the cylinder head.

Install the thermostat housing with a new sealing ring and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 15 Nm.
Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
Fill the engine cooling system with coolant, bleed the cooling system and check the cooling system for leaks (see the relevant chapter).
Car with 3.2L petrol engine (6VD1-W)
Removal
Remove the lower engine compartment protection.
Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.
Remove the expansion chamber.

Remove 4 bolts and hose from thermostat housing.

Remove the thermostat.
Installation
Clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat and thermostat housing.
Install the gasket and thermostat.
Install the pipe onto the thermostat housing and secure with 4 bolts, tightening them to a torque of 25 Nm.
Install the expansion air chamber.
Fill the engine cooling system with coolant, bleed the cooling system and check the cooling system for leaks (see the relevant chapter).
