Removal and installation a coil spring (Opel Frontera A)

When performing the work described below, the rear of the vehicle must be raised and securely supported on stands. If necessary, the wheels can be removed.



Removal and installation of the coil spring is performed in accordance with the illustration.

Removal

1. First, you need to disconnect the clamps (1) and remove the parking brake cables.

2. Loosen the nuts of the anti-roll bar connecting rod (2).

3. Then the nut (3) is unscrewed, the washer is removed from the pin and the shock absorber itself is removed from the bridge.

4. To do this, the bridge must be raised, relieving the shock absorber.

Note: When raising and then lowering the axle, make sure that the brake hose, crankcase ventilation hose or parking brake cables are not stretched.



5. Lower the bridge onto the lift so that the spring and upper isolator can be removed.

Installation

The coil spring is installed as follows:



1. Install the spring with the insulating gasket on the bridge support.

2. Slowly lift the bridge (assistant job), making sure that the spring is installed correctly at the top and bottom.

3. Now lift the bridge so that the spring sits in its place at the top.

4. Install the shock absorber on the bridge.



5. The nut (3) is screwed on with a washer.

6. Secure the connecting rods (2) with nuts.

7. The parking brake cables are secured to the longitudinal arm with clamps (1) and bolts (9 Nm).
