Note: Before concluding that the brake system is faulty, check the front wheel alignment, tire condition, and tire pressure. Also make sure that the vehicle is not overloaded and that the load is evenly distributed. For all problems related to the ABS system, contact your Opel dealer.
Vehicle pulls to one side when braking
- Worn, defective, damaged or dirty front or rear brake pads on one side (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Stuck or partially stuck caliper/slave piston (front or rear brake) (Section 1 and Section 9)
- The linings of the installed brake pads are made of different materials (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Loose caliper or support plate mounting bolts (Section 9)
- Worn or damaged steering or suspension components (Section 1 and Section 10)
Screeching or grinding noise when braking
- The friction lining of the brake pad has worn down to the metal base (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Excessive corrosion of the brake disc or drum (may appear if the car has been idle for some time) (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Foreign object stuck between brake disc and shield (pebble, etc) (Section 1 and Section 9)
Brake pedal free play is greater than specification
- Faulty rear brake auto-adjust mechanism - drum brakes (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Faulty master cylinder (Section 9)
- Air in the hydraulic system (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Faulty vacuum booster (Section 9)
"Soft" brake pedal
- Air in the hydraulic system (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Damaged flexible rubber tubes of the high pressure line of the brake system (Section 1 or Section 9)
- Loose master cylinder mounting nuts (Section 9)
- Faulty master cylinder (Section 9)
Excessive force is required to depress the brake pedal
- Faulty vacuum booster (Section 9)
- Faulty vacuum booster unit (Section 9)
- Disconnected, damaged or leaking brake booster vacuum hose (Section 9)
- Damage in one of the hydraulic circuits (Section 9)
- Jammed caliper piston or wheel cylinder (Section 9)
- Brake pads installed incorrectly (Sections and 9)
- Wrong type of brake pads installed (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Dirty brake pads (Section 1 and Section 9)
There is a strong vibration in the brake pedal or steering wheel when braking
- Excessive wear or distortion of discs or drums (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Worn brake pads (Section 1 and Section 9)
- Loose front brake caliper or rear brake support plate mounting bolts (Section 9)
- Worn steering or suspension mounts or components (Section 1 and Section 10)
Wheel braking
- Jammed caliper piston or wheel cylinder (Section 9)
- Parking brake mechanism or cable incorrectly adjusted (Section 9)
- Faulty master cylinder (Section 9)
Rear wheel lock under normal braking
