Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Depress the brake pedal several times to release the vacuum in the booster.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid level sensor in the filler cap of the master cylinder reservoir.
4. If possible, use a pipette or an old hydrometer to drain the brake fluid from the cylinder reservoir - this will reduce fluid loss during the next procedure.
5. Place a suitable container under the master cylinder to contain the brake fluid to be released.
6. Apply alignment marks to the brake tubes, then unscrew the connecting nuts and disconnect the tubes from the master cylinder.
7. Turn off two fixing nuts and remove the main cylinder from racks on the block of the vacuum amplifier (see illustration).
8. Clean the outer surface of the cylinder, then carefully remove the reservoir and seals from it, using a screwdriver as a lever.
9. If required, on non-ABS models, the master cylinder can be disassembled as described in Chapter 16.
10. On models with ABS, the master cylinder bulkhead is not possible (see chapter 17).
Installation
11. Install in reverse order using new master cylinder reservoir seals. Finally, bleed the entire brake system as described in Chapter 3.
