Oxygen concentration sensor (O2S - Oxidant Sensor) - is a solid electrolyte made of ZrO - ceramics. At high temperatures, this electrolyte becomes electrically conductive and generates a characteristic galvanic charge, which is an indicator of the oxygen content in the exhaust gases.
Depending on the oxygen content in the exhaust gases, the oxygen sensor induces a voltage of 0 to 1 V. Based on this data, the engine control unit changes the opening time of the injectors and the ratio of fuel in the air-fuel mixture. In order for the combustible mixture to burn completely and for the exhaust gases to be free of harmful substances, there must be 1 part fuel per 14.7 parts by weight of air.
Warnings:
- Do not use the front heated oxygen sensor if it has fallen from a height of more than 0.5 m onto a hard surface.
- The threads of the new oxygen concentration sensor are coated with a special anti-stick compound consisting of finely dispersed particles of graphite and glass. When the engine is running, the graphite burns out, but the glass layer remains in place, which will subsequently make it easier to unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe. If the sensor has been removed, be sure to apply a non-stick compound to its threads before reinstalling it.
- The oxygen concentration sensor is connected to the connector via a flexible wire. This flexible wire should not be disconnected from the transmitter. Damage or removal of the flexible wire may adversely affect the operation of the oxygen sensor. Do not drop or hit the oxygen concentration sensor.
X22SE and Y22SE engines
Removal
Raise the vehicle and support it on supports.
Remove the lower engine compartment protection.
Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector from the wiring harness.
Remove the oxygen concentration sensor (1) from the front exhaust pipe.

Installation
Apply non-stick compound to the oxygen sensor threads.
Screw the oxygen concentration sensor into the front exhaust pipe and tighten it to a torque of 50 N·m.
Connect the oxygen sensor connector to the wiring harness.
Install the lower engine compartment protection.
3.2L Engine (6VD1—W) Rear Oxygen Sensor
Removal
Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector from the wiring harness (see the relevant chapter).

Installation
Apply non-stick compound to the oxygen sensor threads.
Screw the oxygen concentration sensor into the exhaust pipe and tighten it to a torque of 42 N·m.
Connect the oxygen sensor connector to the wiring harness (see the relevant chapter).
Front right oxygen concentration sensor
Removal
Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector from the wiring harness (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the oxygen concentration sensor (1) from the exhaust pipe.
