Warning! The toothed belt must be replaced when the engine is cold.
Removing
Installation location of a thin steel rod in the toothed belt tensioner
1. Remove the top casing of a gear belt.
2. Set the number one piston to top dead center on the compression stroke.
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
4. Unscrew bolts and remove the bottom casing of a gear belt.
5. Insert a thin steel rod into the hole in the toothed belt tensioner lever, turn the lever clockwise until it stops and lock it in this position by inserting the rod into the corresponding hole in the tensioner base plate. Leave the tensioner in this position until the new belt is installed. unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
6. Check that the marks on the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys are correctly aligned.
7. Loosen the water pump mounting bolts.
8. Rotate the pump so that the tension on the toothed belt is relieved.
9. Remove the toothed belt from the pulleys. To reinstall the toothed belt, mark the direction of its movement.
Warning! After removing the belt, it is strictly forbidden to turn the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys, as the pistons may collide with the open valves, which will lead to serious engine damage.
10. Check the toothed belt for uneven wear, splitting or oil contamination. Pay special attention to the condition at the base of the belt teeth. If traces of oil are found on the belt, the source of the oil leak must be found and repaired.
Installation
1. Check and clean the toothed belt drive pulleys. Also check the condition and freedom of rotation of the tensioner pulley. Check that the alignment marks on the pulleys are aligned with the pointers on the engine.
2. Install the timing belt on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft pulley. In this case, the front branch of the belt must be tightly stretched. Then install the belt on the coolant pump pulley and tensioner pulley. Check that the alignment marks of the pulleys are aligned with the pointers.
3. Remove the steel rod from the tension lever to release the tension spring.
4. Re-check the alignment of the pulley alignment marks with the pointers.
5. Tension the toothed belt by rotating the water pump until movement of the tensioner lever is observed. Move the pump until the tension lever is (1) will not be installed against the stop (2). Then tighten the water pump mounting bolts.
6. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft two full turns in the normal direction of rotation.
7. Check that the alignment marks on the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys are aligned with the pointers. Turn the crankshaft again two full turns and check the alignment of the marks and the position of the toothed belt tensioner lever.
8. If the tensioner lever pointer does not align with the stop, repeat the toothed belt tensioning procedure.
9. Install the toothed belt guards and crankshaft pulley.
