Note: Idle speed adjustment is not possible on models equipped with the Multec system as it is controlled by the ECU. be guided Chapter 1.
Removing
Single overhead cam models (except for the Multitec system)
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wiring from the idle speed control (see illustration).
3. The regulator can be removed with the connecting hoses, or separately, leaving the hoses in place.
4. Loosen the appropriate screws, then disconnect the hoses and remove the idle speed control (see illustration).
Models with double overhead camshafts
5. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
6. Loosen the screw, disconnect the hose from the bottom of the air block on the throttle body. Remove the clamp from the hose.
7. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands placed under the sidewalls of the body frame.
8. Remove the bottom motor skid plate as described in Section 1.
9. Working under the vehicle, disconnect the wiring from the idle speed control located between the intake manifold and the starter (see illustration).
10. Loosen the screw and disconnect the remaining idle speed control hose from the intake manifold, then pull the idle speed regulator downwards along with the hoses.
11. If the hoses need to be disconnected from the regulator, mark their location to avoid confusion when connecting.
Installation
12. Install in reverse order. On double overhead cam models, check that the idle speed control is horizontal and that the wiring is routed over the top of the coolant hose.
If the wiring runs under the coolant hose, this may cause the regulator to move downwards, resulting in a break in the air hose going to the intake manifold.
