Removing
Single overhead cam models
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wiring from the throttle position sensor (see illustration).
3. Unscrew the two mounting screws, remove the sensor from the throttle body (see illustration).
Models with double overhead camshafts
4. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
5. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the airflow meter. Remove the O-ring.
6. Loosen the screw securing the main air line to the right end of the airflow meter.
7. Remove the four bolts securing the air block to the throttle body. Lift the air block off the throttle body, disconnect the hose from the air block base, then remove the air block/airflow meter assembly.
8. Disconnect wiring harness from throttle position sensor connector (see illustration).
9. Unscrew the two fixing screws, remove the sensor from the throttle body.
Installation
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
11. On models with the Motronic M4.1 system, before tightening the mounting screws, adjust the position of the sensor as follows:
- a) Rotate the sensor housing counterclockwise until resistance is felt, then tighten the mounting screws.
- b) A sensor click should be heard when the throttle is opened, and similarly, the click should be repeated when the throttle closes.
- c) If necessary, adjust the position of the sensor until you hear a click as the throttle begins to open.
12. On ME5 systems, no adjustment is required during installation as the sensor can only be installed in one position.
