Removal
Single overhead camshaft models
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wiring from the throttle position sensor (see illustration).

3. Unscrew the two mounting screws and remove the sensor from the throttle body (see illustration).

Models with two overhead camshafts
4. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
5. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the air flow meter. Remove the O-ring.
6. Loosen the screw securing the main air duct to the right end of the air flow meter.
7. Remove the four bolts securing the air block to the throttle body. Lift the air block off the throttle body, disconnect the hose from the base of the air block, then remove the air block/air flow meter assembly.
8. Disconnect the wiring from the throttle position sensor connector (see illustration).

9. Unscrew the two mounting screws and remove the sensor from the throttle body.
Installation
10. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
11. On models with the Motronic M4.1 system, before tightening the mounting screws, adjust the position of the sensor as follows:
- a) Turn the sensor housing counterclockwise until you feel resistance, then tighten the mounting screws.
- b) When the throttle valve is opened, a clicking sound should be heard from the sensor, and similarly, the click should be repeated when the throttle valve is closed.
- c) If necessary, adjust the position of the sensor until you hear a click when the throttle valve begins to open.
12. On ME5 systems, no adjustment is required during installation, since the sensor can only be installed in one position.
