Warning: A conventional ignition pulse type tachometer cannot be used on diesel engines.


1. Using a diesel tachometer, measure the maximum engine speed and compare it with the data given in the Specifications.

2. If adjustment is necessary, remove the air cleaner tube. Loosen the lock nut on the idle speed adjusting screw and turn the screw clockwise to increase speed or counterclockwise to decrease speed. Tighten the lock nut without changing the position of the screw (see illustrations). Install the tube.

3. The Bosch VE fuel pump requires a modified idle speed adjustment procedure. The later pump can be identified by the vertical idle speed adjustment screw located on the face of the pump. Where this type of pump is installed, it is necessary that the engine speed control lever locking screw not be disturbed. The positions of the adjusting screws are shown (see illustration).
