Draining oil from the engine
1. Oil should be drained from a warm engine.
2. Place the car on a level surface (not downhill). Place a drain pan under the drain pan. Wipe the area around the drain pan plug, then unscrew and remove it (see illustration). Be careful not to spill hot oil on yourself. Do not lose the drain plug washer.

3. Unscrew the oil filler cap to speed up the draining process. Inspect the drain plug washer and replace it if necessary.
4. After the oil has completely drained, install the drain plug with washer and tighten it to the tightening torque specified in the Specifications. Before adding oil, replace the oil filter as follows.

6. Wipe the area around the filter and make sure there is no O-ring left on the engine. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with engine oil and screw the filter into place.
Filling oil and checking the engine
7. Fill with new oil of the type specified in the Specifications through the filler neck.
8. Replace the oil filler cap, then start the engine. The oil pressure warning light will stay on for a few seconds until the filter is filled with oil.
9. Start the engine and check the system for leaks around the filter and drain plug.
10. Stop the engine, then check the oil level again. Add oil if necessary.
