1. Thoroughly clean the outer surface of the filter and the fastener before removing the filter
2. Drain the fuel from the filter by unscrewing the vent and drain plugs. Tighten the vent plugs.
3. Unscrew the filter using a chain or repair wrench (see illustration). Remove the old filter and check that the O-rings are not left on the fastener.
4. Place a new O-ring in the center hole of the filter and secure it with a retainer (see illustration).
5. Lubricate the outer O-ring with clean fuel. Install the filter on the fastener and tighten it by hand. Pinch the drain plug.
6. Start the engine and check the filter for leaks.
