1. Open the hood and inspect the component joints, gaskets, and seals for signs of coolant or oil leaks. Pay attention to the areas around the oil filler cap, cylinder head, oil filter and sump. If a leak is found, replace the gasket or seal.
2. Check the condition of all hoses and pipes under the hood. Replace the hose if it is cracked, swollen or worn. Pay special attention to the clamps that secure the hoses to the cooling system components. Clamps can pinch or puncture hoses, resulting in leaks in the cooling system.
3. Pay special attention to heater hoses. Protect them, if necessary, with a casing (see illustrations).
4. If any damage or contamination is found, do not operate the vehicle until the necessary repairs have been made.
