1. The concentration of antifreeze in the system must be checked and, if necessary, replaced. This check can be done with an instrument like a battery hydrometer (see illustration).
2. It is essential that the antifreeze mixture be in the cooling system at all times to protect the engine from corrosion and from freezing in cold weather. The mixture must be made up of pure soft water (preferably rain) and antifreeze based on ethylene glycol.
3. The ratio of antifreeze to water should be 50/50, then the mixture will not freeze at temperatures down to -30°C.
4. In warm climate areas, it is necessary to use a liquid with anti-corrosion properties in the cooling system.
