Removing
1. Actions are similar to those described in Chapter 4, except that the tensioner pulley has an automatic adjuster that simplifies the procedure.
2. To loosen the belt tension before removal, slightly unscrew the tensioner pulley bolt. Then insert a large screwdriver (or suitable tool) into the groove on the tensioner lever, rotate the lever until the belt is slack. Lightly tighten the mounting bolt to hold the tensioner in this position.
Installation
3. To install the toothed drive belt, first check that the coolant pump is correctly positioned, the projection on the pump flange must be aligned with the corresponding projection on the cylinder block. If this is not the case, slightly loosen the pump mounting bolts and move it in the appropriate direction. Tighten the bolts with a torque specified specifications (see Section 3).
4. Install the toothed drive belt as described in Chapter 4, then adjust the tension as follows.
Adjustment
5. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt, move the mechanism lever until the pointer rests against the limiter. Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to hold it in this position.
6. Rotate the crankshaft two full turns in the normal direction of rotation. The TDC mark on the crankshaft pulley should align with the pointer on the back cover of the toothed drive belt, the TDC marks on the camshaft sprockets - with notches in the camshaft cover.
7. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt again, move the mechanism lever clockwise until the pointer aligns with the notch in the mechanism. The first few hours of operation, the new belt will be subjected to "lapping" (known as the break-in procedure). If you are installing a previously used belt (already "run-in"), set the pointer approximately 4 mm to the left of the notch, using Chapter 14 in Section 2A. Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt. Turn the crankshaft one full turn in the normal direction of rotation - the alignment marks on the crankshaft and camshaft should remain aligned. Then install all remaining components as described in Chapter 4.
8. Having adjusted the belt in this way, the correct tension will always be maintained automatically and no further control or adjustment is required.
