Note: Use a new timing belt when installing.
Removal
1. The front camshaft oil seals can be replaced on an engine installed in a vehicle as follows:
2. Remove the timing belt and associated camshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 4.
3. Punch or drill a small hole in the center of the seal. Screw in a self-tapping screw, pull it with pliers and remove the seal.
4. Clean the seal seat with a wooden or plastic scraper.
5. Rotate the camshaft until the camshaft sprocket location mark is at its highest position, then lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal, and install the oil seal with a pipe or socket of a diameter smaller than the camshaft sprocket bolt washer. Screw the bolt and washer into the end of the camshaft to press the oil seal into place (see illustration).

6. Where necessary, repeat the procedure with the remaining camshaft oil seal.
Installation
7. Install the camshaft sprockets, toothed drive belt. Tighten the belt as described in Chapters 4 and 5.
