2. Remove spark plugs (Section 4).
3. Remove the thermoviscous cooling fan, drive belt, and fan as described in Section 2. If equipped, remove the power steering pump and air conditioning compressor drive belts.
4. Drain the liquid from the cooling system (Section 2).
5. Unfasten and remove covers of a gear belt of a drive.
6. Turn the engine with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt until the mark on the camshaft sprocket aligns with the pointer on the top of the back cover of the timing belt. Also align the notch in the crankshaft pulley with the pointer on the underside of the timing belt rear cover.
7. Loosen the three bolts securing the water pump to the block.
8. Apply handbrake, shift into 4th gear. Alternatively, and essential for automatic transmission models, remove the starter motor and secure the flywheel/drive plate behind the teeth of the starter ring gear with a screwdriver.
9. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, then unscrew the pulley from the sprocket.
10. Turn the water pump housing counterclockwise and remove the timing belt from the sprockets.
11. Temporarily place a new toothed drive belt on the sprockets.
12. Place the crankshaft pulley on the crankshaft sprocket and insert the bolts. Insert the center bolt.
13. Fix the flywheel / drive disk, then tighten the outer bolts first, then the central bolt with the tightening torque specified in the Specification.
14. Disconnect the timing belt drive, align the alignment marks on the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft pulley with pointers on the rear cover. Reinstall the belt without disturbing the position of the sprockets, the tension is carried out by moving the water pump clockwise.
15. Tension the toothed drive belt, guided by Chapter 12, paragraphs 26-30.
16. Install the drive belt covers.
17. Install and tension the drive belt (neither).
18. Install the cooling fan.
19. Install spark plugs (Section 4).
20. Fill the cooling system (Section 2).
21. Connect the negative battery cable.
