The transmission should be warm, but not hot, when checking.
Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
Loosen the oil filler plug.
The oil level should reach the lower edge of the filler hole. If necessary, add oil using an oil can or funnel. Place a container to drain the oil. Do not pour oil in large portions.
Attention! In F-16/5-CR gearboxes (1.6-2.0 l engines) and F-20/5CR (16-valve 2.0L engines) with flat lid (see fig. left) production before April 1989, the oil level should be 15 mm below the control mark. A piece of wire can be used to check the oil level. In gearboxes manufactured since April 1989, the oil must be filled up to the lower edge of the control mark. A distinctive feature of the new type of gearboxes is the concave gearbox cover.
The amount of oil to be filled in for 5-speed gearboxes in engines with a displacement of 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 liters is 1.6 liters, and in engines with a displacement of 1.8 and 2.0 liters - 1.9 l.
Filled oil specification: Opel 1940750 (ET -N90001777).
Attention! Oils with high and low viscosity must not be used, as this leads to knocking in the gearbox.
Tighten the fill plug.
Lower the car.
