It must be checked annually, but at least every 15,000 km. Every 3 years or no later than after 45,000 km of run, the oil in the box must be replaced.
When operating a vehicle in difficult conditions (e.g. when towing frequently, as a taxi, in mountainous or dusty areas) The ATF in the gearbox must be changed every 30,000 km.
Note. The oil dipstick is located in the engine compartment. Oil is poured here.
Attention! Always be as clean as possible when carrying out any work on the automatic transmission.
Examination
Place the car on a flat horizontal surface, without cargo; apply the parking brake.
Set the gear selector to all positions one by one (P-R-N-D-3-2-1).
Set lever to position "R".
Start the engine.
The check can be carried out with the gearbox running in both cold and warm conditions. Since the oil level in this case will be different, there are two scales on the dipstick: one corresponds to a warm box (oil temperature 80°C or 94°C), and the other cold (oil temperature 20°C) (see fig.).
Checking the oil level in the gearbox without preheating (at ambient temperature below 35°C) can be carried out after 1 minute of engine idling. The check should not last more than 2 minutes. Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a lint-free cloth (better than a piece of skin), and then completely immerse in oil, remove and take readings. The oil level is correct if on the scale corresponding to the cold box (20°C) he reaches the mark "MAX".
Checking the oil level in a preheated gearbox is the same as above. only in this case, the oil level is considered to be in accordance with the norm, if on the scale corresponding to the heated box, it is between the marks "MIN" And "MAX". The box warms up to operating temperature when traveling at high speed for a distance of at least 20 km.
Oil is topped up through the dipstick hole. For filling, it is recommended to use a clean funnel with a fine mesh filter. The amount of oil to be added is determined as follows. On a scale "20°C" oil volume between mark "MAX" and 5 mm below is 0.25 l, and on a scale "80°С" oil volume between marks "MIN" And "MAX" is 0.5 l.
Attention! Do not add too much oil; otherwise, the transmission may malfunction. Drain or pump out excess oil.
Check the appearance and smell of old oil. The smell of burning is the result of burnt brake bands. Contaminated oil can cause transmission problems.
Attention! Only ATF oil with the designation Dexron II can be used (Opel part number N1940699 (90350341)).
Note. All approved ATF oils can be mixed with each other. The use of any additives is not allowed.
Attention! An engine with an incompletely filled gearbox must not be started!
After checking and (if necessary) to adjust the oil level, insert the dipstick into place.
Depress the brake pedal and slowly and sequentially shift the gear selector to all positions. Then return the lever to the position "R" and check the oil level again.
Stop the engine.
