Checking the oil level in the manual transmission and transfer case (Opel Frontera A)

1. The transmission has an oil filler/measurement plug that should be removed to check the oil level. If the vehicle is raised to allow access to this plug, make sure it is securely supported - do not crawl under a vehicle that is supported only by a jack!

Note: The vehicle must be level to properly check the oil level.

2a. MSG Transmission: The oil filler hole for these transmissions is located on the left side of the transfer case, in the location shown in the illustration.



2b. Remove the filler/level measurement plugs (indicated by the arrow) and check the oil level with your little finger. It should be near the bottom of the hole in the plug - if it is lower, add oil.

3. MUA Gearbox: This gearbox has two oil filler holes located on the right side of the gearbox. One of them is located on the gearbox housing, the other on the transfer case housing. When checking the oil level, unscrew both plugs.

4. Remove the transmission plug, insert your pinky into the plug hole and feel the oil level. It should be near the very bottom of the plug hole.

5. If this is not the case, add the specified amount Specifications oil through the hole in the plug using a syringe until the oil begins to flow out of the hole. Regular engine oil is poured into the gearbox. The oil type is specified in Section "Types and volumes of lubricants and fluids used" Specifications.

6. Install the plug and tighten it securely. After a few kilometers, check for fluid leaks.

7. If you notice that your transmission requires frequent topping up, it may simply be because there are leaks that need to be identified and fixed before serious problems arise.
