Automatic transmission. General information (Opel Vectra A)

Opel Vectra/Calibra vehicles can be optionally equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The gearbox is controlled by an electronic unit (computer) located behind the front panel of the body. The computer receives information from sensors about the position of the gear selector lever, oil temperature, and engine load (the latter from the Motronic fuel injection system computer).

The gear shifting process is carried out using four electrohydraulic valves. This control system has the following advantages: lower fuel consumption, higher gear shift quality, a larger choice of driving modes ("economical", "sport", "winter"). If the input signals fail or the valves are damaged, the system switches to an emergency program. Malfunctions that occur during the operation of the car are recorded in the computer memory and can be issued at the owner's request.

Testing an automatic transmission and troubleshooting it correctly requires experience and knowledge. Therefore, this chapter only describes some tests and a table of error codes.
