Visual detection of oil leaks (Opel Vectra A)

Oil leaks are most likely to occur in the following places:

• at the junction of the cylinder block and gearbox;
• on the oil drain and filler plugs;
• on the seal between the gearbox housing and its cover;
• on the flange of the cardan shaft near the gearbox.

The search for leak locations is carried out as follows:

Clean the gearbox housing.

Check the oil level and top up if necessary.

Sprinkle possible leak areas with talc.

Drive the car for about 30 km at high speed to warm up the oil and reduce its viscosity.

Raise the vehicle, place it on supports and inspect for possible leaks.

Repair all leaks found.
