Removal
Remove the engine from the car (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the starter (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the clutch housing with the pressure plate and the driven clutch disc (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the flywheel (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the oil pan (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the crankshaft position sensor (1) together with the sealing ring from the cylinder block.

To fix the crankshaft, insert the KM-929 thrust pin (2) into the hole for the crankshaft position sensor. If necessary, carefully turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation until the thrust pin is fully seated in the corresponding hole.

Make sure that after fixing the crankshaft, the timing marks (3) are opposite each other.

Remove the cover (1) from the balance shaft block housing.

Install the device (3) KM-979 as shown in the figure. Turn the chain tensioner by hand and insert the pin (2) of the KM-978 device into the hole. Unscrew the bolt (5) securing the sprocket (4) and remove the sprocket from the balance shaft block and chain.

Loosen the bolts (1 and 2) in a spiral pattern and remove the balance shaft assembly from the cylinder block.

If the balance shaft needs to be replaced, the chain guide (4) and tensioner (3) must be replaced.

Clean the mating surfaces and remove any remaining old gasket.
Installation
Install the balance shaft block onto the guide bushings (with KM-979), then install onto the cylinder block and secure with new bolts, tightening them as follows:
- 1st pass: 20 Nm;
- 2nd pass: tighten bolts (1) by 30° and bolts (2) by 60°.
Insert the sprocket into the chain, install the sprocket onto the balance shaft and secure with a new bolt, tightening it as follows:
- 1st pass: 90 Nm;
- 2nd pass: turn to an angle of 30°.
Remove all special adjustment devices.
Install the crankshaft position sensor assembly with the O-ring seal on the cylinder block and secure with the bolt, tightening it to 8 N·m
Install the cover onto the balance shaft block housing and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 8 Nm
Install the oil pan (see the relevant chapter).
Install the flywheel (see the relevant chapter).
Install the clutch housing with the pressure plate and the driven clutch disc (see the relevant chapter).
Install the starter (see the relevant chapter).
Install the engine into the car (see the relevant chapter).
