Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal (Opel Frontera B)

Removal

Remove the flywheel (see the relevant chapter).

Drill two small holes in the oil seal (1), located at diametrically opposite ends of the oil seal. Screw two self-tapping screws into the drilled holes and use pliers to pull the seal out by the screw heads. Alternatively, lever out the seal (1) using a screwdriver blade.

Warning: When removing the oil seal, be careful not to damage the sealing surface of the crankshaft.

Installation

Clean the seal seat.

Check the shaft surface in contact with the seal for wear, scoring, scratches or other damage that may have rendered the seal unusable. If there are minor defects, they can be polished out, but more serious defects will require replacement of the shaft.

Lubricate the working edges of the new oil seal with clean engine oil, slide it onto the protective sleeve KM-934-1 (2) and install it on the end of the crankshaft.



Using special tools KM-934-2(3) and KM-454-4 or KM-523-2 (4), press the oil seal into place.
