Always tighten the wheel nuts to 118 Nm.
Always tighten the wheel cover nuts to a torque of 3 Nm.
When assembling, make sure there is no dirt between the brake disc and the wheel bearing. The contact surfaces must be smooth and even.
Before performing any work, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
On bolts that will be installed using locking compound, it is necessary to slightly cut the threads.
If it is necessary to replace a brake disc, the second brake disc must also be replaced to ensure uniform braking.
When replacing brake discs, it is also necessary to replace the brake pads.
Use only genuine Opel/Vauxhall brake pads.
Be sure to replace all the pads on one axle of the vehicle, even if only one of them is worn out. If old brake pads are reinstalled, they must be marked before removal.
After installing new brake pads, avoid sudden braking for the first 200 km of the vehicle's mileage.
Use only DOT 4 brake fluid and ensure that no other fluid is added to the brake system.
Do not use any tools when cleaning the caliper pistons and cylinders. Pistons that have been exposed to corrosion must be cleaned only with brake fluid or alcohol.
Check the expiration dates of adhesives and sealants before use. Never use products with expired dates.
Wiring harnesses that have to be separated or removed during repair work must be re-fastened in their original positions.
Checking the brake system for leaks and damage
When checking, the bottom of the car should be dry to make it easier to detect leaks, since brake fluid also penetrates under the layer of dirt. Dark, damp areas or black dirt may indicate leaks.
Check all mounting points and fittings, as well as the brake calipers.
Brake hoses should not be wet, bulging or frayed. Otherwise, replace them.
Pipelines with signs of corrosion and pinched pipelines must be replaced immediately.
Check that all brake calipers have protective caps on the bleed nipples.
It is recommended to check the brake fluid pressure yourself from time to time:
- Press the brake pedal as hard as you can;
- Do not release the pedal for several minutes, but it should not go down any further. If this happens, the seal on the master cylinder is faulty.
Due to a leaky seal, the brake fluid level in the reservoir does not drop, and the pressurized fluid passes past the piston in the master cylinder to the side where there is no pressure.
Leaky areas on the brake caliper piston seals can be identified by dark spots around the seals.
If you doubt the tightness of the brake system and cannot independently determine the location of the damage, contact a service station.
