Checking the brake disc (Opel Frontera B)

            0

Contents: Checking the runout ⬇ Thickness check ⬇ Measuring the inner diameter of the…⬇
Warnings:
  • Brake discs must not have deep scratches or grooves caused by contamination or heavily worn linings. Scratches cut deep into new brake pads, which significantly reduces their service life and also impairs braking performance.
  • If it is necessary to replace the brake disc, the second brake disc must also be replaced to ensure uniform braking. When replacing brake discs, it is also necessary to replace the brake pads.

Check the brake disc for cracks, especially around the wheel bolt holes.

Checking the runout

Raise the vehicle and support it on supports.

Remove the appropriate wheel.

Check the condition of the wheel bearing.

Use a dial indicator to check the runout of the brake disc. Attach the pointer-type indicator to any convenient place and, by turning the disk, determine the runout of the front brake disk at a distance of 29 mm from the outer edge and the rear brake disk at a distance of 22 mm from the outer edge.

Use a dial indicator to check the runout of the brake disc. Attach the pointer-type indicator to…

Maximum permissible runout of the brake disc: 0.13 mm

If the disc runout exceeds the permissible limits, the disc must be replaced.

Install the wheel and secure it with nuts, tightening them to a torque of 118 Nm.

Lower the car.

Thickness check

Raise the car.

Remove the appropriate wheel.

Use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the brake disc. Take measurements at 4 points around the perimeter of the disc, 22 mm from the outer edge for the front brake disc and 29 mm from the outer edge for the rear brake disc.

The difference in brake disc thickness should not exceed 0.010 mm.

The difference in brake disc thickness should not exceed 0.010 mm.

Install the wheel and secure with nuts, tightening them to a torque of 118 Nm.

Lower the car.

Measuring the inner diameter of the parking brake drum

Source is on the website www.opelbook.ru

Remove the rear brake caliper (see the relevant chapter).

Remove the brake disc (see the relevant chapter).

Measure the inside diameter of the parking brake drum in two or more positions. If the result of any measurement exceeds the maximum permissible value, replace the brake disc.

Warning: If it is necessary to replace the brake disc, the second brake disc must also be replaced to ensure uniform braking. When replacing brake discs, it is also necessary to replace the brake pads.

Warning: If it is necessary to replace the brake disc, the second brake disc must also be replaced…

Parking brake drum inner diameter:
  • nominal: 210.0 mm;
  • maximum permissible: 211.4 mm.

Install the brake disc (see the relevant chapter).

Install the rear brake caliper (see the relevant chapter).
