1. Unscrew and remove the ventilation plug (see photo).

2. Remove the retaining ring from the top of the guide pin (see photos).

3. Remove the retainer, spring and intermediate shift lever (see photo).

4. Knock out the pin and disconnect the shift finger from the rod. Remove both parts from the lid (see photos).

5. If the flexible joint on the gear shift shaft is worn, cut off the rivet to disassemble it and install new parts. The pin and snap ring must also be replaced.

6. Replace the seal in the gearshift mechanism cover.
