Note: In 1989, some vehicles were produced with the wrong brake pedal height - approximately 15.0mm above the clutch pedal (standard setting - 4.0 mm lower). If required, reset the brake pedal height by adjusting the working length of the vacuum booster skirt as described in Section 9.
Adjustment
1. The clutch cable does not normally require adjustment, but if the clutch assembly or cable has been replaced, the next initial adjustment will be required.
2. Using a tape measure or similar tool, measure the distance from the center of the rubber pad of the undepressed clutch pedal to a point on the steering wheel (tag her). Press the pedal all the way down and repeat the measurement (see illustrations).
3. Subtract the first measurement from the second to calculate pedal travel. The resulting value must be within the specified in Specifications range. If the pedal travel does not correspond to the regulated value, adjust the length of the cable as follows.
4. Working in the engine compartment, remove the bracket securing the threaded rod to the release lever, then turn the adjuster as required. Turning it clockwise will increase the pedal travel, while turning it counterclockwise will decrease it. Recheck the pedal travel, then install the brace on the threaded rod.
5. On a car with high mileage, it is possible to adjust the cable no longer. This indicates that the clutch friction disc needs to be replaced. Note that a properly adjusted clutch pedal should be slightly higher than the brake pedal. If the pedals are at the same height, the cable needs to be adjusted. Note also that the clutch pedal must not have free play.
