Examination
Illuminate the engine compartment with a portable lamp or flashlight. Inspect the belt by turning it with your fingers. To do this, engage 4th gear and crank the crankshaft. If worn side surfaces or tears are found on the inside, replace the belt.
Check belt tension. In workshops, a special device is used for this.
If there is no such device, the tension can be checked by pressing a finger on the belt in the middle between the pulleys. It should bend by 5-10 mm.
Replacement and tension
Loosen bolts A securing the pump to the bracket, nut B of the belt tensioning bolt and bolt C of the tensioning element on the bracket.
Remove the nut and locknut from the tension bolt.
Remove belt.
Install a new belt and, tightening the nut, tighten it.
Check belt tension with a gauge or finger pressure.
Tighten the locknut on the tension bolt.
Tighten previously loosened bolts. The tightening torque for bolts A and C is 25 Nm and nuts B is 40 Nm.
Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes while depressing the accelerator pedal from time to time.
Check belt tension again and adjust if necessary.
