Removal



Raise the vehicle and support it on supports.

Set the gear shift lever to neutral position (or selector lever to position N) and release the parking brake lever.

Remove 6 bolts and gearbox guard.

Remove the transmission beam from the vehicle.

Remove the exhaust pipe and transfer case guard.

Mark the relative positions of the propeller shaft flanges and drive flanges on the front and rear axles.

Loosen the nuts, remove the bolts and disconnect the propeller shaft flanges from the transfer case and rear or front axle.

Remove the black paint from the mating surfaces of the front and rear axle flanges.



Replacing the universal joint



If any universal joint component requires replacement, replace the universal joint assembly.

Place marks on the universal joint forks of the cardan shaft.

Remove the retaining spring rings (2) from the driveshaft fork.

Using a suitable hammer, strike the needle bearing (4) to displace the crosspiece from the cardan shaft fork and remove the opposite needle bearing.

Remove the second needle bearing from the driveshaft fork in the same manner.

In the same way, remove the crosspiece (3) with needle bearings from the flange (1) of the cardan shaft.

Using a press, press the crosspiece (3) with needle bearings (4) into the flange (1) of the cardan shaft and secure them with retaining rings (2).

Measure the clearance in the splined joint of the cardan shaft. If the gap exceeds 0.3 mm, replace the propeller shaft.

Installation



Align the previously applied marks and connect the flanges of the propeller shaft to the transfer case and the front or rear axle and secure them with bolts and nuts, tightening them to a torque of 63 N·m.



Install the transfer case guard and exhaust pipe.

Install the gearbox beam.
