Cardan shaft — removal and installation (Opel Omega A)

1. Block the front wheels. Jack up the rear of the car and secure it on axle stands.

2. On models equipped with a catalytic converter, remove the mounting bolts from underneath the vehicle and remove the large and small catalytic converter heat shields from the underbody of the vehicle.

3. Apply the handbrake, then loosen the slider clamp nut on the front of the driveshaft by one turn (photo).

4. Using a socket or end socket, remove the bolts securing the front flex plate to the transmission output flange (photo).

6. Support the center of the driveshaft on an axle stand, then unbolt the center bearing support hanger from the underbody, noting the location of the alignment shims.



7. Push the front section back along the slider joint grooves away from the transmission output flange.

8. Pull the cardan shaft forward, the front part should remain on the grooves of the slider joint.

9. Unscrew the center bracket from the center bearing, noting the location of the alignment shims.

10. Unscrew the front and rear coupling discs from the driveshaft. Note that on some models the vibration damper is attached to the front of the driveshaft.

11. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
