Replacing the front wheel drive shaft joints (Opel Kadett E)

Note: The front wheel drive shaft joints must be replaced as an assembly.

Removal

Remove the front wheel drive shaft.

Remove the clamp securing the protective cover and slide the cover along the shaft.

Remove the retaining ring and use a plastic-headed hammer to knock the joint off the drive shaft splines.

Installation

Press the new joint onto the splines of the wheel drive shaft to a depth such that the retaining ring can be installed, while maintaining dimension "A" = 135 mm (see picture), between the end and the seat recess for the hinge protective cover.



Insert a new retaining ring into the shaft groove.

Fill the joint cavity with special grease, catalog No.19 41 521/90 094 176.

Put the protective cover back in place and install a new cover clamp using special pliers.

Install the wheel drive shaft in place.
