Removing
1. Place a garage or hydraulic lift under the lower control arm.
2. Raise the lift so that the transverse arm is slightly under load.
3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the brake hose holder from the upper suspension arm.
4. If equipped with ABS, also disconnect the wheel speed sensor cable from the suspension arm.
5. Disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle. To do this, use the puller shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the protective cover.
6. Detach the upper transverse link from the inside of the chassis. Fastening is carried out with two bolts.
When removing the transverse arm, mark the camber and caster shims. Left and right can have a different number of pucks. This must be taken into account. The design of the transverse suspension arm of the cars of the new series has been changed. It is also necessary to pay attention to this.
Installation
Installation of the upper transverse arm is carried out as follows:
1. Install the transverse arm with camber and caster shims. The transverse arm has two lugs in the center (from the middle of 1995 release), which should face inward. The groove for the ball joint should also be facing there. The wishbone of the earlier model has only one protrusion in the middle.
2. Tighten the suspension arm axle mounting bolts to 155 Nm, the ball joint nut to 105 Nm.
3. If the position of the axle of the suspension arm has been changed in relation to the arm, which could be, for example, when replacing the bushings of the arm, it is necessary to set again the dimension shown in fig. 5.12 (15 mm until mid 1995 and 25 mm from mid 1995).
4. After that, tighten the nuts with a torque of 108 Nm.
5. Other work is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Bolts of fastening of the holder of a brake hose/sensor tighten the moment of 28 Nm.
Replacement of bushings of the cross-section suspension arm
The control arm bushings can be replaced. To do this, you need to remove the axle of the suspension arm. To replace the bushings, the transverse arm is recommended to be handed over to a car repair shop. Tighten the nuts on the left and right of the axle mounting temporarily by hand.
