Attention: work must be carried out in compliance with fire safety measures.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Suck the fuel out of the tank into a clean metal container that can be sealed tightly. Alternatively, while working under the vehicle, disconnect the fuel line from the tank and drain the fuel into a suitable container.
2. Disconnect the wiring from the sensor terminals. On later models, also disconnect the fuel line leading to the pump (see photo). Clamp the hoses to prevent fuel from leaking.

3. To remove the sensor, either insert a lever between two of the ledges on the sensor and turn it counterclockwise to release it from the mounts, or unscrew the bolts securing the sensor (depending on the design).

4. Carefully remove the sensor, being careful not to bend the float lever.
5. Remove the sealing ring.
6. The sensor is installed in the reverse order. Check that the sealing ring is in good condition and is seated correctly.
