2. Disconnect the cable from the speedometer head by moving its fastening to the side (see photo 28.2). This method may be difficult, in which case continue as described in step 5.

3. Disconnect the opposite end of the cable from the transmission by unscrewing the retaining plate bolts, or unscrewing the retaining ring, depending on the model (see photo 28.3).

4. Pass the cable through the rubber gasket into the engine compartment and remove it.
5. If you encounter difficulties when trying to reach the cable attachment point under the instrument panel to disconnect it, do the following.
b. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
7. Disconnect the speedometer cable end from the transmission by unscrewing the nut or removing the retaining plate, depending on the model.
8. Remove the tool body (two screws).
9. Unscrew the screw (s), that secure the instrument panel and release the tabs on the instrument panel.
10. Slide the instrument panel forward while an assistant threads the speedometer cable through its hole in the engine. Disconnect the cable from the speedometer by pressing the retaining clip.
11. Pull the cable into the engine compartment.
12. Install a new cable by performing the above steps in reverse order.
