2. Disconnect the cable from the speedometer head by sliding its mount to the side (see photo 28.2). This method may be difficult, in which case continue as described in point 5.

3. Disconnect the opposite end of the cable from the transmission by loosening the retaining plate bolts, or loosening the retaining ring, depending on the model (see photo 28.3).

4. Pass the cable through the rubber gasket into the engine compartment and remove it.
5. If you have difficulty reaching the cable attachment point under the instrument panel to disconnect it, try the following.
b. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
7. Disconnect the end of the speedometer cable from the transmission by loosening the nut or removing the retaining plate, depending on the model.
8. Remove the instrument housing (two screws).
9. Remove the screw that secures the instrument panel and release the tabs on this panel.
10. Slide the instrument panel forward while an assistant threads the speedometer cable through its hole in the engine. Disconnect the cable from the speedometer by pressing the retaining clip.
11. Route the cable into the engine compartment.
12. Install the new cable by following the above steps in reverse order.
