Headlights — removal, installation, modifications (Opel Ascona C)

            0

Note: On vehicles equipped with a headlight wiper/washer system, you will need to start by removing the front bumper (see Chapter 11), and then the headlight wiper lever (see Section 40).

1. To remove the front headlight assembly, first disconnect the battery cables, then remove the radiator grille as described in Chapter 11.

2. Remove the two upper headlight mounting screws (see photo 30.2).

4. Press the spring clip on the side of the headlight rear cover and remove the cover.

5. Disconnect the electrical wiring plug and remove the headlight.

6. Installation in place is carried out by performing the above steps in reverse order.

7. All models from 1986 onwards have an extra black wire in the wiring harness leading to the warning indicator.

8. This wire should only be used for the new type of warning indicator that only operates when the ignition is off and should not be used for any other type of indicator.

9. When replacing the warning indicator, pay close attention to the connections and wire colors to ensure correct connection. Low/high beam headlights - modification from October 1986

10. In order to prevent the vehicle being driven with only the side lamps on and to comply with legal requirements concerning the use of lighting, all vehicles manufactured in the United Kingdom after this date shall be fitted with a dimming system in the headlamp circuit. The function of this system is to ensure that the vehicle cannot be driven when only the parking lights are on.

11. The system includes a low beam control unit which reduces the voltage supplied to the headlamps. This system is designed solely as a safety feature and the normal legal requirements regarding vehicle lighting still apply and must be observed.

12. Access to this control system can be gained by removing the flexible trim panel located under the dashboard on the passenger side. Once the decorative panel has been removed, the control device will become visible, which is bolted to the side surface of the body panel.
