Brake Disc Shield — Removal and Installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. Remove the entire caliper (ATE) or remove the bracket from the caliper body (GMF). It is not necessary to disconnect the brake hose from the caliper. However, when working with the ATE type, make sure the caliper is well supported to prevent any strain on the hose. Please refer to Sections 4 or 5.

2. Remove the brake disc as described in Section 6. Then unscrew the disc shield mounting bolts by penetrating through the holes in the hub flange (Figure 9.19).

3. Rotate the disc shield until it becomes possible to cut its connecting strip using metal nippers. Remove the shield.

4. Before installing the new shield, cut the membrane as shown. Lightly paint the cut end to prevent rust (Figure 9.20).

5. Position the shield so that the notch is in the highest position. Tighten the mounting bolts.

6. Reinstall the disc and caliper.
