While the lock pin fails only in rare cases, the cause of the failure is more likely to be a set of switching contacts molded into a plastic part, i.e. ignition/start switch. You can check its malfunction by unscrewing the lower trim of the steering column.
Removing the ignition/start switch
Disconnect the battery.
Dismantle facing of a steering column, see the chapter «Salon».
Remove the lock drum.
Release the multi-pin connection of the power cable with a screwdriver and at the same time press it away from the contact part with a second screwdriver.
Unscrew both countersunk screws around the perimeter of the ignition lock.
Remove the ignition / start switch from the steering column lock, taking into account the location of the contact switch.
If the steering wheel lock is fixed during installation, press the lock in the steering lock down with a screwdriver until the locking pin is fixed.
Dismantling the ignition lock drum
Dismantle facing of a steering column, see the chapter «Salon».
Turn the ignition key to position «I».
Insert a piece of wire into the hole on the top side of the drum body.
Press the fixing spring down with a wire and remove the drum from the lock on the steering wheel.
Mounting: if the locking pin is locked, press the bolt down with a screwdriver until the locking pin locks. Now mount the lock drum.
Shown here are the individual parts of the light switch. The numbers indicate:
1 - rotating handle of the light switch;
2 - case base;
3 - body detail;
4 - key switch for fog lights and lights.
On right:dismantling the ignition / start switch: with a screwdriver (2) press facing (1) behind the ignition/start switch and at the same time disconnect the multi-pin connector, the countersunk screw that secures the ignition/start switch is visible.
Left:dismantling the lock drum: turn the ignition lock to the position «I». Insert a piece of wire or twist drill (arrow) into the hole in the drum housing. Press the fixing spring and remove the drum from the lock on the steering wheel.
Ignition short circuit
This description should make you not a car thief, but help you continue driving with a faulty ignition switch. Of course, despite this, there must also be an ignition key, and it must turn in the lock so that the steering wheel lock can be released. If the steering lock itself is defective, you must not continue the journey, as The steering wheel lock may work while driving.
Remove the steering column trim.
Release the multi-pin connector and push away from the ignition/start switch.
Using a piece of wire or a paper clip, connect the plug socket of both thick wires together (terminal 30 - red wire and terminal 15 - black wire). This will turn on the ignition.
To start the engine, make a second, insulated jumper from a piece of wire, which initially connects only to the black / red wire (terminal 50).
Attach the second jumper to the already standing jumper and quickly remove as soon as the starter starts the engine.
It is best to remove the second jumper completely, and isolate the first well so that it cannot touch the bare metal of the parts. Otherwise, a powerful short circuit will result, tk. the red wire coming from the battery does not have a fuse.
To turn off the engine, remove the connection between the red and black wire.
When driving, the steering column trim can remain dismantled.
